O2P puts the power of oil powders in your hands
In the late 1990s, scientists at NPRI recognized that most conventional drying technologies either changed or destroyed an oil’s original nutritive value, thus rendering it less effective or totally useless.
Conventional methods of converting oil to powder have some major downsides, including that they:
- Significantly alter the molecular structure of the oil, in some cases reducing or destroying the active nutrients.
- Are cost-prohibitive, substantially increasing an ingredient’s cost.
- Introduce oxygen and/or heat, increasing the potential for oxidation and increased peroxide values, and lowering stability and shelf life.
- Have low oil load potential.
Unlike these existing technologies, the oil-to-powder (O2P) process delivers an economical powder without affecting the isomer profile or nutritional value of the base oil.
The O2P process has many applications - food supplement marketers can increase the nutritional value of a product by adding Omega-3 or Vitamin E, or makers of cosmetics can add anti-oxidants or replenishers. Using O2P oil powder offers you the ability to provide an alternative delivery method (tablets, capsules or dry powder beverages) and easier blending and production in dry mix or pre-mix application.
A Shelf-Stable Powder
By converting to powder, you remove excess moisture, which helps inhibit microbial growth and increases shelf-life. Depending on an oil’s specific characteristics, shelf-life is increased to 24 months or longer. And a longer shelf-life translates into longer sales life.
A cost-effective pOwder
Using O2P powders instead of oil reduces transportation and storage costs, meaning greater margins for your products.
A More Potent Powder
Because O2P is manufactured at room temperature, in a controlled, nitrogen-rich atmosphere, there is no change in the oil’s fatty acid or isomer profiles. And there’s zero loss. Load factors (load is the percentage of oil in the powder) can range from 5% to 70%.
